Cheerleading Champions!

Nicole Allen and Amelia Shepherd from Room 5 are members of the Hamilton based Cheerleading squad from "Cheer Revolution" named "Fierce" who recently won a place at the All Star Games in Las Vegas in April 2014. Wow! They qualified for this by being 1st overall in the Senior Open Level 2 division at the Twisted Cheerleading Championships in Auckland and also achieved the highest overall Level 2 score. They received one of only five Bronze Bids awarded which means they received 25% of expenses paid for their trip as part of their prize, if they take up the offer of the trip!

A couple of girls in room 5 this term were lucky enough to experience going to the Justin Bieber and One Direction concert. This was a amazing opportunity for both girls (Georgia and Fallon) as they both had wonderful nights screaming and crying finally getting to see their idols.

Fallon: "It was honestly so amazing I loved every second of it and I couldn't help but cry to see Justin standing pretty much only 2 metres away from me. He had great stage presentation and don't even get me started on when he took his shirt off! Best night of my entire life!"

Georgia: "I honestly had the best time of my life! It was extremely over whelming seeing my five idols performing to many 'directioners' in the room,  and yes I cried. They were extremely good stage performers and made the night definitely worth going too. "

2013 Athletic Sports

The school Athletic Sports for 2013 was held at Porritt Stadium and started promisingly, but heavy rain half way through the morning programme, saw the event cancelled for the rest of the day. Prior to the cancellation, many of the Room 5 students were in action, and achieved results in their events.
Carl Stephens was 1st and Harry Yates 2nd in the Yr 7 Boys High Jump, Bailey Guilford was 3rd in the Yr 7 Girls Long Jump, Petria Fitzgerald was 3rd in the Yr 8 Girls Long Jump, and Shadrach Tuimaseve was 2nd in the Yr 8 Boys Discus.
A catch up morning was held on the following Tuesday at Porritt Stadium to complete many of the events affected by the rain, and Room 5 students again featured prominently. Nicole Allen came 1st and Amelia Shepherd 2nd in the Year 7 Girls High Jump, Cassie Barnes came 2nd and Fallon Goodson 3rd in the Year 8 Girls High Jump, Harry Yates came 1st in both the Year 7 Boys 100m and 200m finals, Petria Fitzgerald came 3rd in the 100m, and Nicole Allen came 2nd in the Year 7 Girls 100m. And, our Year 8 Girls relay team finished 2nd! As did the Year 7 Girls! Well done Room 5!
The rest of the field events were subsequently held at school and Room 5 again featured. Bailey came 1st in the 1500m and 3rd in the 1000m races for the Year 7 Girls, Carl was 2nd in the 1000m for Year 7 Boys, and Alex Carter was 3rd in the 1500m for Year 7 Boys.

Ritsumeikhan Keisho visitors

Our class has had the pleasure of hosting two students from Ritsumeikhan Keisho Junior High School in Hokkaido Japan, for the past two weeks. The students were part of a group who were home hosted at the school, and were part of the Room 5 community during class time, practicing their English! We played lots of games with them, including Monopoly, Cluedo, Scrabble and Uno, and tried to teach them how to play knuckle bones!
