2011 Lunchtime Sport Softball winners!





Room 5 are the winners of the Lunchtime Sport inter-class Softball tournament for 2011! We beat the Sports Class (Room 17) in an exciting final where after the first turn at bat for each team, the scores were tied at 6 runs each. Another full turn at bat for each team (where everybody bats once) was played, and Room 17 scored another 6 runs. We came into bat last, and managed to score 7 runs, with the last batter Matthew Tuson, hitting home himself and two other base runners to win the game. This is now the fifth year in a row that Room 5 has won the tournament. The team was- Eilis Yates, Eden French-Putu, Liana Scott-Nanthasack, Jess Forkert, Jaimie Jefferson, Ezra Sa'u, Sheridan Tuimaseve, Trent Langeveld, Sheldon Rogers, and Matthew Tuson. CHAMPIONS!

Prize Giving 2011

Jaimie Jefferson was named Sports Woman of the Year at the 2011 Maeroa School Prizegiving. She received the award ahead of 5 other finalists, including Hannah Jenkin and Jessica Forkert, also from Room 5. Sheridan Tuimaseve was a finalist for the Sportsman of the Year. Jessica Needham won the Len Schwabe Trophy for Cultural Achievement and Involvement for 2011, plus the award for the most successful student in Academic Competitions, winning the Excellence in Academic Competitions Cup.

School Concert 2011
























The school end-of-year concert featured many Room 5 students. The Kahikatea team item was in the style of "Glee", with the theme being "Remember the Days". The songs featured were "Remember the Days of the Old Schoolyard", "Those Were The Days" (with a solo performance from Liana Scott-Nanthasack), "Another Brick in the Wall", "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" and the "Kahikatea Song, written by Anna Butcher, to the Monkees Theme Song.
